How to use it
- Enter the APK size. Type the file size and choose MB, KB or GB.
- Adjust speeds. Change the network speeds to match where your users are.
- Read the results. See the time per network and the mobile data the download uses.
How it is calculated
Download time = size in megabits ÷ speed in megabits per second. A file of 8 MB is 64 megabits, so on a 20 Mbps 4G connection it takes about 3.2 seconds in ideal conditions. Real downloads add a little overhead for connection setup and varying signal, so treat the numbers as best-case estimates.
Why size matters
- Users on prepaid data often skip large downloads or wait for Wi-Fi — and many never come back.
- Installation needs free storage beyond the download itself.
- Smaller apps start faster, especially on low-end phones.
Make your web app smaller
- Convert images to WebP and size them for phone screens.
- Remove unused libraries, source maps and duplicate fonts.
- Stream video and large audio instead of bundling them.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1 MB the same as 1 Mb?
No. MB is megabytes and Mb is megabits; 1 MB = 8 Mb. Network speeds are quoted in megabits per second.
What is a good APK size for a web app?
Under 10 MB is comfortable for almost everyone on mobile data; bundled HTML apps are often under 5 MB.
Why is my installed app bigger than the APK?
Android extracts and optimises some content on install, and the app stores data and cache as it runs.
