APK Install Instructions Generator

Most people have never installed an app outside Google Play. A short, friendly set of steps — sent with the link — saves you a dozen 'it won't install' messages.

How to use it

  1. Enter your app and link. Type the app name and the link where people download the APK.
  2. Pick the phone and Android version. Choose the brand most of your users have, or Any Android phone.
  3. Choose a style. Plain text for email and documents, chat style for WhatsApp or Telegram.
  4. Copy and send. Copy the instructions and send them with your link.

Why users get stuck

Android protects people from unknown apps with three separate prompts: the browser's download warning, the "install unknown apps" permission (asked per app since Android 8.0), and Google Play Protect. Each one sounds alarming if you aren't expecting it. Naming them in advance — and saying they are normal — is what gets people through.

Differences between phones

The steps are the same on every modern Android phone; what changes is wording and the name of the file manager — My Files on Samsung, Files by Google on Pixel, File Manager on Xiaomi and OnePlus. Some manufacturers add their own security scan before installation. If a menu isn't where the steps say, searching Settings for "Install unknown apps" always finds it.

Frequently asked questions

Do users need to keep 'unknown apps' allowed?

No. They can turn it off after installing; the app keeps working. They will need it again to install a future update from outside Play.

Why does Play Protect warn about my app?

Play Protect flags apps from developers it doesn't recognise. It is expected for apps shared outside Google Play.

Can users install the APK on an iPhone?

No. APK files are Android-only.
